Jay C. Oster

July 7, 1948 — Jan. 2, 2010

ANDERSON — Jay Carl Oster departed this earth on Jan. 2, 2010.

He was born July 7, 1948, and resided in Anderson.

He graduated from Madison Heights High School in 1966, and attended Ball State University. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1999, after 33 years of service.

He was an avid golfer, and had bowled five 300 games in his lifetime. He was also an avid fisherman who caught Sandy, the one that got away.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Oster; son, Daniel Oster and wife Linda; a brother, Jeff Oster; mother-in-law, June and Perry; his stepchildren, Amy Robarge (and nephews, Brad and Jamie Oster and Ryan Oster), Tom Hosier, Bethany Hosier and Chris Hosier; grandchildren, Alyssa, Austin and Keygan Robarge, Braxton and Kiely Hosier, Carly, Rajuailo, Jade, Bianca, Yasmine, Cubie and Angel Hosier; brothers-in-law, Jerry and Paul Decker; sisters-in-law, Kimberly Hopper, Nancy and Andy Brough and Joyce and John Hollen; special longtime friends, Jimmy Patterson, Mike DeLong and Billy Sims; very special friends, Rex and Janie Durbin and families. He will be missed dearly by several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as his family friend pet, Harley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Oster; his grandparents, Roberta and Carl Muse and June and George Oster; his sisters, Jana and Judy Oster; uncle, Bill Muse; and a brother-in-law, Michael Decker.

Visitation will be from 12 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Cremation will take place following visitation.

Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars 266 after visitation on Wednesday.

Jane Ellen Jenkins



ANDERSON — Jane Ellen Jenkins, 62, of Anderson, passed away Dec. 24, 2009, at Saint John’s Medical Center, after a sudden illness.

She was born Nov. 10, 1947, in Anderson, the daughter of John E. and Mamie (Lough) Jenkins.

She lived all of her life in Anderson and was working for Anderson Community Schools as a substitute teacher.

Jane Ellen was a member of the Meadowbrook Baptist Church, Cross Roads United Methodist Church, Footloose Singles Club and the Madison County Promenaders Club.

She is survived by her two children, Kira Jenkins of Anderson and Charlie Jenkins of Silverhill, Ala.; and several cousins.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Mike Harris officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home, to help with expenses.

Dennis Craig Bodenhorn


Aug. 9, 1948 — Oct. 13, 2009
COOS BAY, Ore. — Former Anderson resident Dennis Craig Bodenhorn, 61 of Coos Bay, Ore., passed away Oct. 13, 2009, after a lengthy illness.


He was born Aug. 9, 1948, in Anderson, Ind., to the late Frederick “Shine” Bodenhorn and Violet (Gammon) Bodenhorn (also deceased).
He was a graduate of Madison Heights High School and attended Ball State University.


Craig was a political organizer in various Democratic campaigns in California as well as Indiana. He was also a restaurant manager for 15 years in Jackson, Miss., and Indianapolis, Ind. He worked as a community organizer in VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in 1977-78 in Indianapolis and Washington, D.C.
Craig traveled extensively in the U.S. He was an accomplished chef and enjoyed preparing meals for guests. Among his many friends and relatives he was appreciated for his storytelling and wit. He was broadly read and interested in the arts and an amateur artist of talent.


Survivors include his sister, Sue (Bodenhorn) O’Connor and husband, Jewett of Concord, N.H.; two nieces, Keli Grigsby of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amy McConnell of Anderson, Ind.; a nephew, Kurt Davis of Boston, Mass.; as well as several great nieces and nephews. Craig is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Patrick Myers, of Indianapolis.


A family memorial service is pending. Arrangements are being handled by Myrtle Grove Funeral Service-Bay Area.
