James W. Phillips

Oct. 23, 1948 - Dec. 17, 2005

James W. Phillips, 57, of Anderson, died Dec. 17, 2005, at St. John’s Medical Center, Anderson, following a two-year battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 23, 1948, in Anderson, where he resided most of his life.

He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

He was a retired letter carrier from the United States Postal Service.

He was a member of East Lynn Christian Church. He loved to play golf, basketball, softball and riding his motorcycle. He was a Pacers and Colts fan. He enjoyed writing poetry and walking the fields to search for arrowheads.

Survivors include his wife Janine (Marling) Phillips of Anderson, whom he married Oct. 8, 1994; his mother, Lois (Mahan) Phillips of Anderson; children, Jesse Phillips of Indianapolis, Emily and husband Chris Kaufman of Tampa, Fla., Dr. Zachary and wife Jennifer George of Indianapolis and Amanda and Ben Davison of Naples, Fla.; brothers, Mike Phillips of Tucson, Ariz., Jeff and wife Christy Phillips of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Maximus Kaufman, Elizabeth and Nathan Davison and Austin and Ethan George; nieces and nephews, Amber Stevens, Allison Phillips, Madison Phillips, Jackson Phillips, Jordan Phillips, Jonathon Phillips and Jada Phillips; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Phillips.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at East Lynn Christian Church, 522 E. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Susan Cameron and Dr. Sam K. Young.

Visitation is one hour prior to the memorial service Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Infusion Lab of St. John’s Health System Ambulatory Building or Stepping Stones for Vietnam Veterans.
