Thomas's Story

ANDERSON — Thomas E. "Tom" Hughes, 67, Anderson, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on June 22, 1947, in Anderson, to J. Robert and Lois (Garrison) Hughes. He graduated from Madison Heights High School and served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War (correction should be Vietnam War). Tom retired in 2006 from the Marion Stamping Plant of General Motors and had also been employed at the former Inland Fisher Guide division of General Motors in Anderson. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 663 and the Anderson American Legion Post 127.  He is survived by three children, Robert C. (wife, Jina) Hughes of Bargersville, David T. "Dough Boy" Hughes and Elissa M. (husband, Willibaldo) Martinez, both of Anderson; six grandchildren, Kami Reed, Devon Hughes, Marisa Hughes, Valentin Avina, and Savannah and Roxanne Hughes.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Military graveside rites will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel by the Lapel American Legion Post 212.  Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.  Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
